1️⃣ Two Main Ways to Share Product Data #
Google recommends combining structured data on your website with a Google Merchant Center feed.
A. Add Structured Data to Product Pages #
- Add Product schema markup to your product pages.
- Benefits:
- Makes products eligible for rich results (price, stock, ratings, etc.).
- Improves accuracy of price, discount, and shipping information.
- Supports Google Merchant Center verification.

- Guide: Include Structured Data Relevant to Ecommerce
B. Upload Data to Google Merchant Center (GMC) #
- Not mandatory for regular Search, but required for Shopping tab listings.
- Upload a product feed to control product visibility and updates.
Benefits of GMC Feeds:
- Google is certain about all products (web crawling might miss some).
- Faster updates (daily, hourly, or instant via Content API).
- Share data not on your site (e.g., store-level inventory).

2️⃣ Choosing a Feed Method #
- Small or rarely updated site → Automated feed from website content (structured data helps accuracy).
- Large or frequently updated site → Manual feed uploads or Content API for instant changes (especially for stock and price).
3️⃣ How Google Uses the Data
| Experience | Structured Data | Merchant Center |
| Product Rich Results (Search) | ✅ Used directly | ✅ May support |
| Google Images (product tags) | ✅ Annotations | ✅ Images from GMC |
| Google Shopping Tab | Helps verify data | Required |
| Google Lens | Uses schema | Uses GMC images |
4️⃣ Fixing Stock & Price Sync Issues #
- If your site updates stock or price before GMC feed updates → data mismatch can occur.
- Solution: Enable automatic updates in GMC to refresh from your site whenever discrepancies are detected.
